Fund for Va. mom’s family closed, police continue investigation

WASHINGTON — A memorial fund established for a woman killed by a dump truck on Monday morning has been such a success that the family has closed it.

The fund was established after Jennifer Lawson, 39, of Arlington, was hit by the truck around 11:30 a.m. in front of Nottingham Elementary School as she was putting her two-year-old daughter in the rear seat of her minivan. Her daughter wasn’t hurt.

The investigation is ongoing and police continue to seek information.

The fund was set up on Tuesday morning by Trent Livingston, a friend of the family, to “help offset the unforeseen costs of this tragic event” and to benefit Lawson’s three children.

He had hoped to raise $5,000. As of 9 p.m. Tuesday, the fund was shut down – after it had raised more than $17,000.

On the fund website, Livingston says the family is “graciously overwhelmed with the support and generosity of the community. As the organizer, I personally cannot say thank you enough.

“The Lawson family extends a heartfelt thank you to all of you that have contributed to Jennifer’s memorial fund.

“They will be seeking out ways to use this money to benefit the community in Jennifer’s name.

“Thank you all and God Bless.”

Because so many have expressed interest in making a donation in Lawson’s name, Livingston says the family would prefer future donations to go to the following locations:

For those who would like to send a notice of the gift, please address it to:

Police say two vehicles were behind the dump truck when it struck Lawson, but the drivers left the scene. The people inside those vehicles may have insight into the investigation and police would like to speak to them.
