Arlo Guthrie highlights weekend music scene

WASHINGTON – Friday at the Birchmere, Arlo Guthrie kicks off a two-night run of shows featuring songs from both his own catalog and his folk-hero father, Woody.

Saturday’s performance is sold out, but tickets are still available for Friday.

The 9:30 Club is hosting its own two-night stand Friday and Saturday with newgrass outfit Railroad Earth.

The band is well-liked by bluegrass followers and jam-band aficionados alike, due to its use of traditional instruments with modern arrangements and improvisation.

Sunday at Jammin’ Java, The Old Ceremony is scheduled to perform.

The group brings together elements of classic American pop and roots music to showcase the moody songs of frontman Django Haskins.
