WASHINGTON – The Washington Redskins haven’t given fans much to cheer about this season. But a local high school football team playing for the state championship this week could.

Fairfax County’s Centreville Wildcats are 14-0 going into Saturday’s game against Oscar Smith High School from Chesapeake, Va. Oscar Smith is also undefeated and beat Centreville two years ago, taking the state title.

Centreville Head Coach Chris Haddock says this has been a special year so far.

“Winning 14 games at Centreville High School has been an historic season thus far and we’ve won the most games in the history of the school,” Haddock says.

Senior quarterback, Scott Walter says he wants revenge for that loss two years ago.

“Revenge is the No. 1 factor for the week, just getting them back and showing everybody in the state that we are a state caliber team,” Walter says.

Centreville has blown out most of the teams it has played this season, shutting out many opponents and even defeating crosstown rival Westfield High School twice. Wide receiver Charles Tutt says the team isn’t overly confident going into the big game and is staying focused.

“Just staying humble, staying hungry, hard work at practice and aggressive and staying motivated,” Tutt says of the team’s mindset.

Coach Haddock says the game will probably come down to which team can handle the surprises and let downs the best on the field. In his 21 years of coaching, he says the the 2013 Centreville team is the most talented. He says he’s never seen a team be ready to play this hard when the lights come on and the whistles blow.

The championship game is this Saturday at the University of Virginia.
