WASHINGTON (AP) -- For the first time in school history, a football player at Gallaudet University for the deaf and hard of hearing has been selected as a finalist for the trophy given to the most outstanding football player in Division III.
Senior defensive end Adham Talaat was one of the 10 finalists announced Tuesday for the Gagliardi Trophy.
Gallaudet advanced to the NCAA playoffs for the first time this season. The Bison finished 9-2 after losing to Hobart on Saturday in the first round.
Talaat, who is hard of hearing, has a 3.90 GPA and has attracted the attention of pro scouts. Gallaudet is planning a pro day for him, and he could become the first player from the school to make the NFL.
The Gagliardi Trophy will be awarded Dec. 18.
