VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) -- A Virginia Beach nonprofit is launching a shoe drive to provide footwear to survivors of the destructive typhoon that lashed the Philippines.
The Got Sole Project will collect new and gently used shoes Saturday. The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/17wyjjK) reports that the shoes will be loaded into a truck and sent to the Philippines.
Get Sole's founder Laura Rowe said the group will also accept monetary donations and send them to the Philippine Red Cross.
The Got Sole Project usually provides shoes to the homeless and Eastern Shore migrant workers.
Typhoon Haiyan raked the eastern part of the Philippines, killing thousands and leaving at least 600,000 homeless.
