College Park voters to decide real race for mayor

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -- College Park voters have a contested race for mayor to decide for the first time in 24 years.

The Washington Post (http://wapo.st/1faUtgC ) reports Mayor Andrew Fellows is being opposed by Robert McCeney, a middle school science teacher and doctoral candidate at George Washington University.

In addition to the mayor's race, Tuesday's nonpartisan city election includes contests for two City Council districts.

At a recent candidates' forum, Fellows spoke about the city's slow, steady progress, including a $28 million state investment in the Route 1 corridor.

McCeney, who has run unsuccessfully for council seats in the past, says he wants more people involved in city politics. He says he would work to soften hostile attitudes toward University of Maryland students.

Other cities in Maryland also will hold municipal elections Tuesday.
