TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- A Baltimore police officer charged in the accidental shooting of a police trainee has been convicted of reckless endangerment.

A Baltimore County jury on Thursday found William S. Kern not guilty of second-degree assault in the shooting of trainee Raymond Gray of the University of Maryland, Baltimore, police.

Gray was shot in the head on Feb. 12 at the former Rosewood Center in Owings Mills by Kern, an instructor, during firearms training. Gray lost an eye in the accident and has filed suit against the city of Baltimore.

Kern faces up to five years in prison on the reckless endangerment count.
