MOUNT AIRY, Md. (AP) -- The pastor of a Mount Airy church says someone stole a 100-year-old bell from a storage area.

The Carroll County Times (http://bit.ly/1940vdb ) reported Thursday that the bell was taken from the Howard-Chapel Ridgeville United Methodist Church sometime in the past two weeks.

The Rev. Laura Schultz says the bronze bell was from the belfry of a nearby United Methodist Church that closed in 1993. She says her church took possession of the bell and some stained glass and planned to use them in an addition that includes a second bell tower.

Schultz says the bell weighs 150 to 200 pounds.

She says the church is working with Maryland State Police to recover the bell.
