POWHATAN, Va. (AP) -- Powhatan County Sheriff G.A. Neal says a deputy sheriff has resigned after making inaccurate statements about a vehicle fire.
Neal announced Deputy Sheriff Harley Crawford's resignation Wednesday in a news release.
The sheriff says inconsistent statements about Saturday's incident prompted an internal investigation. He says Crawford was reported to have pulled someone from the fire.
Neal said no further comment about the matter would be made because it's an ongoing personnel issue.
