RICHMOND, Va. - An attorney representing the mother of a teenager whose visit to a Virginia legislator's home is under investigation says the young woman was discussing a sensitive legal matter with the lawmaker.
Attorney Robert W. Walker Jr. addressed reports Thursday that Delegate Joseph D. Morrissey was under investigation. A prosecutor has acknowledged an investigation but has not detailed its focus.
Walker said that police had talked to the teenager's mother and she told them the meeting last Friday with Morrissey was conducted in professional manner. The attorney said the woman does not want her name or her daughter's name released.
Walker called one report suggesting otherwise "salacious, titillating and terribly misleading."
Morrissey did not immediately return messages left by The Associated Press.
Morrissey is a Democrat representing the Richmond area.
