HAMPTON, Va. (AP) -- A Hampton woman who fabricated a sexual assault that led to the conviction of an innocent man has been sentenced to two months in jail.
According to media reports, a Hampton Circuit Court judge on Monday also ordered 26-year-old Elizabeth Coast to make $90,000 restitution to Johnathan Montgomery.
Coast pleaded guilty to perjury in May. She had claimed that Montgomery molested her in 2000 when he was 14 and she was 10. Montgomery was convicted and sentenced to 7½ years in prison.
Coast recanted her story last year. She said her parents caught her looking at pornography in 2007, so she made up a story of prior sexual abuse to explain her behavior.
Montgomery has been freed from prison and is seeking a writ of actual innocence.
