ELKTON, Md. (AP) - Gov. Martin O'Malley is scheduled to attend a roundtable discussion on the rise in drug overdose deaths in Maryland.
The forum is set for Friday in Elkton in Cecil County.
Last month, the health department reported that fatal overdoses from drugs and alcohol rose 15 percent in Maryland from 2011 to 2012.
That was driven by a 54 percent increase in heroin-related deaths.
Several jurisdictions are holding meetings this month to discuss efforts to address alcohol and drug overdoses with law enforcement and public health authorities.
