Man tries to travel with mortar round in checked luggage

WASHINGTON — A man was stopped at Washington-Dulles International Airport after a 60 mm mortar round was found in his checked luggage, says the Transportation Security Administration.

Explosives experts determined the weapon was inert soon after it was discovered on Aug. 4, the TSA says.

The traveler had just flown into the country and was passing through Dulles on his way to Denver when TSA officials found the weapon.

The man surrendered the round, says the TSA.
