Vandalized churches in DC hold Sunday services

Sunday - 8/4/2013, 8:10pm  ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Washington National Cathedral and another church have opened their doors to parishioners after being vandalized with green paint.

The cathedral and the Luther Place Memorial Church held their regular services on Sunday.

WRC-TV (http://tinyurl.com/pocoleg) reports that the organ pipes at Luther Place have been cleaned and showed no signs of the vandalism.

A 58-year-old Chinese woman, Jiamei Tian, has been charged with defacing the cathedral and is suspected of vandalism at the other church, the Lincoln Memorial and another statue on the National Mall. She has been released to a halfway house and is due back in court on Aug. 26.

Luther Place Assistant Minister Kathryn Perry says she saw Tian sitting in a pew at the church last Sunday, just before it was vandalized.
