RICHMOND, Va. -- The Virginia Department of Forestry is sending 20 firefighters to help a battle wildfires burning in the western United States.
The department says the crew should arrive in Salt Lake City, Utah, Wednesday night or Thursday morning. The firefighters will be dispatched to one of the many wildfires burning in the region. They'll stay out west for two weeks.
John Miller is the department's director of resource protection. He says the Virginia crew is well trained and prepared for the mountainous terrain, high winds and low humidity that make fighting wildfires especially hazardous in the West.
