ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (AP) -- A hearing is set next month for a Rocky Mount man accused of attempting to extort money from a Virginia state trooper.
WSLS reports (http://bit.ly/16AgEbD ) that Courtney Hall is charged with trying to get J.T. Harris to pay him up to $50,000 for an explicit photo that would make it look like the trooper was having an extra-marital affair.
Court papers show Harris received a text with a picture of a woman said to be Hall's girlfriend. Harris then got another text from Hall threatening to tell the trooper's wife and supervisor he was having sex with the woman if he didn't pay up.
Another officer accompanied Harris to a convenience store and arrested Hall after the trooper handed over $5,000.
A preliminary hearing is set for July 23.
