6 D.C. police employees to be honored at ceremony

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Six employees of the D.C. police department, including several officers, are being recognized at an annual awards ceremony.

The D.C. Police Foundation is hosting the 8th annual Law Enforcement Awards Ceremony at the Arena Stage on Tuesday afternoon.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier and Mayor Vincent Gray are expected to attend, along with the foundation's executive director, Joseph Persichini.

The foundation will recognize winners in the following categories: officer of the year, detective of the year, school resource officer of the year, reserve officer of the year, specialized unit of the year and civilian of the year.
