WASHINGTON - A former corrections officer at the D.C. Jail has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery for accepting money to smuggle contraband into the facility.
Thirty-six-year-old Jonathan Womble entered the plea Friday in federal court in Washington. He faces a maximum of 5 years in prison at sentencing Sept. 13.
According to government evidence, Womble met with a conspirator in January and received a bag containing suspected marijuana and heroin, a cellphone and charger, and $400 in cash. Prosecutors say he smuggled the items into the jail and gave them to an inmate.
In February, multiple bags of drugs were found in Womble's locker.
