Va. man wins lotto, gets $1,000 a week for life

WASHINGTON – A Loudoun County man will get $1,000 every week for the rest of his life after winning the top prize in the June 1 “Win for Life” lotto.

“I actually hope for small prizes,” Joel Lyles, the winner from Hamilton, Va., said in a news release.

Lyles bought the winning ticket at Hamilton Convenience on East Colonial Highway in Hamilton, Va. He claimed his prize on Tuesday, June 11, says the Virginia lotto.

The store will also receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Lyles told the lotto he checked the winning numbers online the day after the drawing and saw that his picks of 5-12-18-30-33-34 with the free ball number 3 matched up.

He says he picked the numbers using a combination of birthdays and numbers of significance to him, the lotto says.

Lyles becomes the 43rd lifetime winner since the Win for Life lotto began in 2006. The chances of winning are 1 in 5,245,786, the lotto says. Prizes range from $1,000 to $52,000.
