FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- The University of Mary Washington is improving mental health services for students.

A full-time counselor and a part-time counselor will be added to the school's Counseling and Psychological Services, or CAPS, for the 2013-2014 academic year.

CAPS director Nicole Surething tells The Free Lance-Star (http://bit.ly/19bD9aK ) that the need for mental health support on campus is increasing nationwide.

Clinical appointments scheduled at CAPS increased 5 percent from the 2010-2011 academic year to the next year. Individual therapy sessions increased 20 percent during the same period.
