Fatal shooting by Albemarle officer investigated

Saturday - 6/8/2013, 10:50pm  ET

AFTON, Va. (AP) -- Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal shooting by an Albemarle County police officer.

State police spokeswoman Deborah Cox says the shooting occurred early Saturday after Albemarle police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in Afton. She says the officer involved in the shooting was not injured. Police did not release details, including names of those involved.

However, the landlord who owns the mobile home where the shooting occurred tells The Daily News Leader (http://bit.ly/11MW17a ) that his tenants' adult daughter drove to her parents' home and was attacked by a boyfriend or ex-boyfriend who had been hiding beside the trailer. William Rothracker says police shot the man when they found him beating the woman.

Albemarle police spokeswoman Carter Johnson said the agency has started an internal investigation.
