FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The owner of a Frederick tobacco shop has been charged with selling synthetic marijuana.

Frederick police say an undercover officer bought the substance, known as spice, on Friday evening. Police say they had gotten a tip about spice being sold at Tobacco for Less on West Patrick Street.

Police say the owner, Awais Khan, made the sale. The Andover, Pennsylvania, resident was given a criminal citation for selling synthetic marijuana. Police say they seized the store's supply of the drug.

Sale of spice carries a possible punishment of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
