Musicians honor Chuck Brown at Howard Theatre

WASHINGTON – One year after the passing of Chuck Brown, the godfather of go- go’s legend and music lives on.

Bands and musicians that played with, and listened to, Brown throughout his career are uniting on stage at the Howard Theatre tonight for a tribute to the late musician.

“Everybody is still just crazy about Chuck Brown,” says Andre “Whiteboy” Johnson, a member of Rare Essence who will be performing in tonight’s show.

Others musicians playing this evening include Brown’s daughter, KK, The Horny Horns, Sweet Cherie, Frank Scooby Sirius, Mighty Moe Hagans, Karlston “Ice” Ross, Jas Funk, Marcus Young and more. Attendees can also expect to see some surprise guests.

“The Howard Theatre is like his old stomping grounds, it’s Rare Essence’s old stomping grounds, we all grew up coming to the Howard Theatre, coming to see Chuck Brown down here and it’s just the right place to do it,” says Johnson.

The show starts at 10:30 p.m.; doors open at 10 p.m. For more information, visit the Howard Theatre’s website.
