VDOT reaches deal on pothole repair claims

Wednesday - 5/15/2013, 6:48pm  ET

NORFOLK, Va. - The Virginia Department of Transportation has reached a deal to repay some motorists whose vehicles were damaged by potholes in Hampton Roads.

The Virginian-Pilot reports (http://bit.ly/13xpIxT ) the deal with its former contractor covers claims that involved damage suffered between 8 p.m. Feb. 7 and 1 a.m. Feb. 9. The potholes occurred after a rain storm ruined many of TME Enterprise's patches on those dates.

The total number of those reimbursed under the agreement is expected to be about 40.

Under the settlement, VDOT will reimburse TME Enterprises 50 percent of each approved claim, up to $1,000. Lauren Hansen, a VDOT spokeswoman, says TME must cover the rest. However, Hansen says payments for individual claims are capped at $4,000.
