Retaliation suit against Md. principal settles

Saturday - 5/11/2013, 1:40pm  ET

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- A lawsuit that accused a Montgomery County elementary school principal of retaliation has been settled just days before a trial was scheduled to begin.

The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/15yU4U8 ) that the case was settled out of court and that the terms of the settlement are confidential.

Six former employees at Kemp Mill Elementary School had accused the principal, Floyd D. Starnes, of retaliating against them after suspicions of abuse were reported to Child Protective Services.

The suit included allegations that the principal had placed disobedient, unruly children into a small room and had advised a young teacher not to report it.

The school system has said the allegations were investigated and found to be meritless. Starnes remains in his position. School officials did not make him available to comment.
