ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- A flood watch remains in place for much of Virginia.
The National Weather Service says up to 3 inches of rain was possible through Tuesday night. Higher amounts could fall along the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountain eastern slopes. Among the cities in the watch area are Blacksburg, Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Roanoke and Staunton.
A warning was issued Tuesday for minor flooding along the New River near Galax. The weather service says the river was expected to fall below flood stage later in the day. Minor flooding also was possible along the New River in Pulaski and Wythe counties.
