Baltimore detective charged with assault, burglary

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Baltimore police detective has been charged in two criminal informations with assault and burglary after he allegedly forced his way into a home while looking for his daughter.

The State's Attorney Office announced the charges against Daniel T. Nicholson IV on Monday. He will be arraigned on May 20.

Prosecutors say on April 22, 2012, Nicholson went to a home on Bowleys Lane looking for his daughter. Authorities say when a woman answered the door, Nicholson forced his way in, knocking her down.

Prosecutors say when Nicholson was inside, he pushed a second occupant down.

Nicholson has been suspended without pay. He had been the lead detective in the case of North Carolina teen Phylicia Barnes, who disappeared in Baltimore and whose body was found in a river.
