NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) -- A Christopher Newport University student faces arson charges stemming from fires set in four campus buildings.
Media outlets report that university and state police arrested 20-year-old Davant Marshall of Newport News on Wednesday. He was being held Thursday morning at the Newport News Jail on five arson counts.
The fires occurred Tuesday in bathrooms at the student union, the Freeman Sports and Convocation Center, McMurran Hall and two fires at Forbes Hall. No major damage was reported.
State police say the university has placed Marshall on interim suspension.
Christopher Newport officials canceled classes Tuesday evening following the fires. Classes resumed Wednesday.
