STAUNTON, Va. (AP) -- A grand jury in Staunton has indicted a former museum official on charges that he bought items for himself with his employer's credit card.
Michael Sutton is the former marketing and sales director at the Frontier Culture Museum. The 41-year-old Grottoes resident was indicted Monday on 10 felony counts of obtaining money by false presenses.
Museum Executive Director John Avoli fired Sutton and contacted Virginia State Police in November after financial discrepancies were discovered. Avoli says the amount of goods involved totaled nearly $40,000.
The News Leader (http://bit.ly/XD4mwN) reports some of the charges against Sutton date to 2011. He started working at the museum in 2008.
Sutton remains free on bond.
