WASHINGTON (AP) -- Acclaimed musicians Randy Weston and Candido Camero will visit the National Museum of American History to participate in a discussion on slavery and freedom in America.

The event is set for Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Officials say that historian Wayne Chandler will provide insight into how the African diaspora and the legacy of Africans in America lead to the creation of jazz and other musical and cultural norms that are part of the American experience.

The event helps to celebrate the museum's jazz appreciation month.

Johnnetta Cole, director of the National Museum of African Art, will assist in moderating the discussion.

Officials say that Weston will illuminate the story of slavery and freedom through excerpts from his latest jazz opus, Nubian Suite.
