Baltimore police boost St. Patty's Day enforcement

Saturday - 3/16/2013, 6:25pm  ET

BALTIMORE - Baltimore police have activated their Watch Center for St. Patrick's Day weekend to manage incidents with state and city public safety officials.

Police say hundreds of plain clothes and uniformed police officers will be deployed Saturday and Sunday to enforce laws on drinking violations and open containers of alcohol. The fine is $150 for minors and $250 for adults.

The department says alcohol is not allowed to be consumed on city streets or in open areas such as Canton Square and the Inner Harbor.

The city is enforcing its curfew for children and teenagers. They are not allowed to be out after midnight without a parent or guardian.

Last year's St. Patrick's Day included a videotaped beating of a man in downtown Baltimore, as well as neighborhoods trashed by partiers.
