Korean War anniversary event may shrink

FUNKSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The Pentagon says the federal budget battle may force it to shrink this summer's 60th anniversary commemoration of the end of the Korean War.

Army Col. Dave Clark spoke Wednesday in Funkstown to about 65 Korean War veterans from western Maryland and northern Virginia. Clark heads the Defense Department's 60th anniversary program.

The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown ( ) reports that Clark said the event July 27 might be moved from the Korean War Memorial on the National Mall to Arlington National Cemetery to cut costs. Clark says the Arlington amphitheater holds about 5,000 people. The National Mall can hold many times that number.

Korea veteran John Jackson of Hagerstown says downsizing the event would be one more insult to those who fought in the conflict that some call "The Forgotten War."
