WASHINGTON - A 16-year-old has died after being hit by a car in downtown D.C., and police are asking for the public's help in locating a vehicle involved in the crash.
The Metropolitan Police Department said the girl died Saturday about 2:15 p.m. The girl, who police said was from northwest Washington, was struck Friday around 6 p.m. at the intersection of First Street and New York Avenue NW.
Police say a 2003 Pontiac Bonneville had a green light and crossed through the intersection when the car hit the girl who was crossing outside of a crosswalk.
A tan sport utility vehicle with D.C. plates then ran over the girl, who was lying in the road. The driver of the Pontiac remained on the scene but the SUV did not stop.
