Va. student arrested after gun found at school

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - A Newport News sixth-grader is in police custody after school officials found a loaded handgun in his belongings.
Newport News police spokesman Lou Thurston says there were no threats or injuries.
Michelle Price with Newport News Public Schools tells WAVY-TV ( http://bit.ly/Wp4Y6r) that officials at Dozier Middle School recovered the .22-caliber handgun Wednesday morning after other students reported it to an administrator. The loaded gun was given to a school resource officer.
Price says the student was arrested.
Principal Lisa Gatz sent a voicemail to parents notifying them about the incident.
