CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - The Dalai Lama's visit to Charlottesville in October is having a lasting impact.
Organizers tell the Daily Progress ( http://bit.ly/Z3M7Dj) the appearances generated about $95,000 for local charities. The Oct. 11 visit generated $380,000 in revenue, with most of that coming from ticket sales.
The costs associated with the two appearances were about $143,000, which left a profit of about $237,000.
Organizers said the Tibetan spiritual leader does not make a personal profit from his speeches.
Some $95,000 will go the Dalai Lama Trust for other charitable causes, while about $47,000 will go to the Central Tibetan Administration. It is the exiled political organization working toward a free Tibet.
