WASHINGTON (AP) - American University plans to offer its first broad-based online degree program with a growing online education provider.
The school will announce Tuesday that it's joining the Web platform 2U to offer a master's degree in international relations. Classes begin in May 2013 with about 15 students each.
School of International Service Dean James Goldgeier says anyone in the world can earn the two-year degree for about the same tuition as students on campus. They may save money on housing costs.
Goldgeier says it will be a high-quality program with no distinction on a graduate's diploma. It will include self-paced content and weekly class sessions.
Landover, Md.-based 2U is partnering with George Washington University for a master's in public health and Georgetown University for a master's in nursing, among other schools.
