D.C. Turkey Trot will result in street closures

WASHINGTON (AP) - Drivers planning to travel in the District of Columbia on Thanksgiving should be prepared for street closures as a result of a 5k race.

Thursday's race begins at 9 a.m. Street closures begin at 6 a.m. and continue through 1:30 p.m. The race starts and ends at Freedom Plaza in downtown Washington. The course winds its way east along Pennsylvania Avenue before traveling in front of the Capitol and looping back to the finish line.

The following streets around Freedom Plaza will be closed from 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.:

  • Pennsylvania Avenue, NW from 14th Street, NW to 12th Street, NW
  • 13th Street, NW from E Street, NW to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

The following streets will be closed from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.:

  • Pennsylvania Avenue, NW from 14th Street, NW to 1st Street, NW
  • Constitution Avenue, NW from 4th Street, NW to 17th Street, NW
  • E Street, SW between 3rd Street, SW and 4th Street, SW
  • 4th Street, SW between E Street, SW and Independence Avenue, SW
  • Independence Avenue, SW at 3rd and 4th Street, SW
  • Maryland Avenue, SW at 3rd and 1st Street, SW
  • 1st Street, NW, between Constitution Avenue, NW and Maryland Avenue, SW

The 11th annual Trot For Hunger is organized by So Others Might Eat, a Washington-based charity that provides food, clothing and other services to the city's poor.
