WASHINGTON – A missing Virginia toddler has been found and is safe, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

The Amber Alert for 1-year-old Alexis Rose Carwile of Campbell County, Va., has been canceled.

Virginia State Police issued the alert Thursday, saying the child could be in “extreme danger.”

The suspects in her abduction were the child’s parents: 41-year-old Eric Eugene Black, of Halifax, Va., and 35-year-old Jennifer Dawn Carwile of Campbell County. Officials say the pair abducted the child from a relative’s home in Halifax County after Campbell County authorities awarded custody to social services.

Halifax County Sheriff Fred Clark tells WTOP Black was located around 4:30 a.m. in Chesterfield County, Va., after a UPS driver who was behind the vehicle called authorities.

A later press release from the sheriff’s office states Black was stopped after the UPS driver called police and followed Black until state troopers were able to pull Black over on Interstate 95 in Prince George County, Va.

Information from a family member led authorities to Jennifer Carwile. She was arrested and the child found safe at a residence in Prince George’s County, Md., at about 6:30 a.m. Friday.

Julie Parker, spokeswoman for the Prince George’s County Police Department, initially said the child was not found in Prince George’s County. A tweet from the police department then said there was a “miscommunication.”

The infant is now in protective custody.
