Augusta Co. rejects panhandling, barking proposals

Thursday - 11/15/2012, 5:29pm  ET

VERONA, Va. - Panhandlers can still beg and dogs can still bark without restrictions in Augusta County.

The Board of Supervisors has rejected two ordinances aimed at limiting aggressive solicitations and excessive barking.

The News Leader reports that the board acted on both proposals Wednesday night.

The proposed panhandling ordinance defined aggressive as touching someone, blocking their free movement or approaching them in a way that appears threatening.

The other proposal would have prohibited dogs from barking more than 10 consecutive minutes within any 30-minute period between midnight and 6 a.m. But anyone making a complaint would have to prove the barking violated the ordinance.
