Film crews on River Road avoid distracting drivers Friday

WASHINGTON – Crew trucks for a BBC movie being filmed in the region parked out of view on Friday morning to avoid distracting morning commuters.

Portions of the movie, Philomena, starring Judi Dench, were shot Thursday and Friday in Potomac, Md. near River Road. For her role, Dench plays a woman looking for adult son after he was taken from her decades before.

On Thursday, crews preparing for the shoot distracted drivers and snarled traffic during the morning rush.

Lucille Baur, with the Montgomery County police department, says crews are not permitted to shoot during morning rush hour on Thursday or Friday.

On Friday morning, they set up trailers behind a church to avoid causing the distraction.

Scenes are being shot indoors, so drivers won’t see anything even if they do slow down to take a look.
