MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Middletown officials have decided that chickens and other farm animals are no longer allowed within town limits.

The Frederick News-Post ( http://tinyurl.com/8kkwqsf) reports that commissioners voted for the ordinance Monday. Residents who currently own chickens are allowed to have the animals live out their natural lives for up to five years.

The ordinance also allows schools to have farm animals for educational purposes/

About 50 people protested the move. One resident said the town is fairly rural and that a lot of people regard chickens as pets.
