LUNENBURG, Va. (AP) - An inmate described by authorities as the Virginia leader of a major street gang has been sentenced to nine years in prison for ordering fellow gang members killed.

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli said Monday that Larog Anthony Trowell was convicted in Lunenburg Circuit Court on three counts of soliciting murder and three counts of felony gang participation while already in prison. Trowell entered an Alford plea, which means he acknowledged the state had enough evidence to convict him.

According to authorities, Trowell is the state leader of the Valentine Bloods gang. They say that while imprisoned at Lunenburg Correctional Center, Trowell used gang codes and signals to order killings for acts that he considered treason and insubordination. The killings were not carried out.
