Running to fight teen violence

WASHINGTON - It's been nearly seven years since a knife was plunged into the heart of Gwen Braswell Nash's son in a senseless act of teenage violence.
"It's a wound that will never heal," says Nash.
Her son, Baron P. Braswell II was 16 when he was killed. But this mother, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, is fighting back the only way she knows how. She is running against teen violence.
She said while she was going through the murder trial something told her "run, run for teen violence." And that's how the annual Baron Braswell Run Against Teen Violence came to be.
On Saturday Sept. 22, the seventh annual 5K walk and run will be held at Courtland High School in Spotsylvania. She says it's about rising awareness and taking a stand.
Also, she says the "Baron P. Braswell Memorial Scholarship Fund" has given out more than $90,000 in scholarship funds for higher education to kids in the Greater Fredericksburg area.
