SPRINGFIELD, Va. - An 8-year-old Springfield boy who set up a lemonade stand to help his neighbors rebuild their home after it was damaged by a recent storm has surpassed his goal.

The Washington Post ( http://tinyurl.com/7o3dw6c) reports that Johnny Karlinchak has raised $500 for the family's insurance deductible.

People who saw the story in the newspaper over the weekend also donated money, and on Monday evening Johnny raised an additional $214 to help the family.

The boy especially wanted to help the family's dog, who lost her bed in the storm.

Hear Karlinchak explain his motivation along with his mother in the audio at right.
