NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The former owner of several nightclubs in Hampton Roads has been sentences to 18 months in federal prison on tax evasion charges.
Federal prosecutors say 51-year-old Adewale Victor Oshin of Portsmouth was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Newport News. He also was sentenced to supervised probation for three years and he must pay $86,947 in restitution.
The Virginian-Pilot reports ( http://bit.ly/LLlI4S) that Oshin pleaded guilty in February to one count of filing false tax returns and one count of structuring financial transactions to avoid reporting requirements.
Oshin was the owner or part-owner of several clubs and also owned a muffler and brake shop. According to court documents, between 2003 and 2005, he failed to pay more than $86,000 in taxes.
