RICHMOND, Va. - About 2,000 people turned out for the Memorial Day ceremony at the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond.
Organizers said it was the event's largest crowd in recent memory.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch ( http://bit.ly/Lysc2U) reports that this year was the first to join the War Memorial event with the Virginia Wall of Honor ceremony, formerly held the Thursday before Memorial Day at the state Capitol. The Wall of Honor, established in 2006, records the names of Virginians who have lost their lives during the global war on terrorism since 2000.
Gov. Bob McDonnell was the keynote speaker at the event, where the names of an additional 40 Virginians were added to the Wall of Honor.
