Weather forces National Mall evacuation, concert canceled

WASHINGTON- Capitol police evacuated the Memorial Day concert at the National Mall Sunday as a precaution as thunderstorms moved into D.C.

Halfway through the concert, host Gary Sinise told the audience to seek shelter due to severe weather,

The concert, broadcast by PBS, features songs from pop and country performers, patriotic music from military bands and stories of heroic acts by U.S. troops. Country singer Trace Adkins and rock band Daughtry had already performed before the plug was pulled Sunday.

The concert has been canceled and last year’s performance broadcast in its place.

The evacuation did lead to some logjams due to the amount of people, but there was plenty of time for everyone to get to their cars or The Metro.
