GREENBELT, Md. - More than a dozen people were injured on Wednesday morning when a caravan of three tour buses collided on the Inner Loop of the Beltway, authorities say.

The buses, from a middle school in Dallastown, Penn., were headed to Washington D.C. for a day of sightseeing when traffic slowed near the Baltimore Washington Parkway and a box truck rear-ended one of the buses.

The two other buses were involved in a separate crash further down in traffic near Kenilworth Avenue.

The first crash caused damage to the bus engine, disabling the bus.

Thirteen passengers complained of neck and back pain after the collision; Eight on the first bus and five on the second. No injuries were reported on the third bus. All injuries were considered minor.

More than 80 students and chaperones were evaluated by emergency personnel at the scene.

Prince George's County fire department spokesman Mark Brady says several pieces of equipment were required to transport injured passengers to hospitals.

The crash occurred shortly after 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning in Greenbelt.
