PETERSBURG, Va. - A Vietnam-era grenade found on the grounds of Fort Lee has been destroyed.
The U.S. Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from Langley Air Force Base in Hampton was called to the Petersburg base over the weekend when the partially buried grenade was found. The grenade was then taken to the Fort Lee Range Complex where it was exploded.
Fort Lee says the incident underscores the Army base's ban on the use of metal detectors and relic hunting on the base.
