Apco seeks input on proposed $100M upgrade in Va

ROANOKE, Va. - Appalachian Power is seeking public input on a proposed $100 million infrastructure upgrade in southwest Virginia.

The project announced Wednesday includes construction of a 15-mile 138-kilovolt power line and upgrades to the company's Wythe, Progress Park and Jacksons Ferry substations.

Appalachian Power plans to ask the State Corporation Commission in the fall to approve the project. The company says it wants public input on the siting process for the power line before the application is submitted.

Comments and alternative route suggestions can be submitted on the company's website,, and at public workshop. The workshop is set for May 24 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ft. Chiswell High School in Max Meadows.
